[브레이크뉴스=이성용 기자] 경남도가 ‘차세대 첨단위성 글로벌 혁신특구’에 최종 선정됐다고 8일 밝혔다.

 

차세대 첨단위성은 뉴스페이스 시대에 혁신적인 우주기술들을 적용하여 기존에 없던 형태의 임무(궤도상서비싱, 우주쓰레기 처리, 우주자원 채굴, 우주태양광, 위성간 레이져통신 등) 수행을 목적으로 하는 인공위성이다.

 

글로벌 혁신특구는 중소벤처기업부가 2023년부터 신규로 시행한 사업으로, 기존 규제자유특구를 고도화하고 확대 개편하여 미래기술 분야의 신제품 개발과 해외 진출을 위한 실증, 인증, 허가, 보험에 이르기까지 글로벌 기준에 맞는 제도가 적용되는 구역이다.

 

경남도는 우주항공청 개청과 우주산업 클러스터 위성특화지구 지정 성과를 바탕으로, 차세대 첨단위성 실증 글로벌 혁신특구 계획을 수립해 지난 10월 지정 신청서를 제출했다.

 

중소벤처기업부는 지난 4일 글로벌 혁신특구를 신청한 9개 비수도권 지자체 중 1차 서면평가를 통과한 6개 지자체를 대상으로 발표 평가를 실시했으며, 최종 경남을 포함한 3개 시도를 글로벌 혁신특구로 선정했다.

 

선정된 (경남) 차세대 첨단위성 실증, (대구) AI로봇, (대전) 합성생물학 기반 첨단 바이오제조 등 3개 시도는 선정 분야별 실증 특례를 위한 법령규제 목록을 작성하고, 관계부처 협의를 거친 뒤,「규제자유특구 및 지역특화발전특구에 관한 규제특례법(지역특구법)」에 따른 규제자유특구위원회 심의·의결 절차를 마치면, 글로벌 혁신특구로 최종 확정된다.

 

경남 차세대 첨단위성 실증 글로벌 혁신특구는 위성체‧발사체 제조시장과 민간위성 개발사업 수요 확대에 대응하기 위해, 진주시와 사천시를 거점지역으로 지정하고, 경상국립대학교를 총괄 주관기관으로 선정했다. 

 

2025년 6월부터 2030년 12월까지(5년 7개월) 차세대 첨단위성 개발에 필요한 프로세스를 마련하기 위해 우주소자·부품 단위 국내외 실증을 지원하여, 우주기업의 경쟁력을 확보하고 글로벌 스탠다드 선점을 지원할 계획이다.

 

경상남도는 이번 ‘글로벌 혁신특구’ 선정에 따라, 민간 우주산업을 육성하기 위해 ▲ 차세대 첨단위성 개발·관리 표준체계 마련 ▲ 혁신 우주기술 실증 ▲ 가상 실증환경을 구비한 지상 인프라 구축 ▲ 글로벌 협력 및 인증 네트워크 구축 등을 추진한다.
