▲ 창원시, 무료 공영주차장 올해 12개소 유료화 전환

[브레이크뉴스=이성용 기자] 창원시는 도심지 무료 공영주차장 장기주차에 따른 주차난 해소와 효율적 주차환경 개선을 위해 유료화가 시급한 지역 12개소를 유료로 전환한다고 6일 밝혔다.

 

공영주차장이 무료로 운영돼 장기 상습 주차 차량으로 정작 주차가 필요한 주민들이 이용할 수 없어 이용에 많은 불편을 겪어 왔다.

 

주차난 해소를 위해 해마다 공영주차장을 확충하고 있으나 무료주차장 내 장기주차와 방치차량이 증가하면서 주차시설이 제 기능을 못해 시민 불편을 초래하는 실정이다.

 

이에 시는 주차질서 확립과 대중교통 이용 활성화를 위해 공영주차장 유료화를 점차적으로 늘릴 방침이다.

 

우선 교통이 혼잡한 도심권 주거지 및 상가 밀집 지역 내 이용률이 높은 공영주차장 12개소 978면에 대해 유료화 전환을 연내 추진하고 점차 중심 상업지역 및 준상업지역에 위치한 공영주차장으로 확대할 계획이다.

 

지역별로 보면 △ 의창구 3개소 창원중앙역 150면, 중동 74면, 명서동 70면 △ 성산구 3개소 웅남공단 232면, 토월천사거리 36면, 용호마을 70면 △ 마산합포구 1개소 월영마을 64면 △ 마산회원구 2개소 구암1동 72면, 구암2동 25면 △ 진해구 3개소 청안동 129면, 풍호동 29면, 중앙동 27면이다.

 

현재 창원시 공영주차장은 840개소로 91개소는 유료이고 나머지749개소는 무료다.

 

공영주차장 이용요금은 ‘창원시 주차장 설치 및 관리 조례’에 따라 최초 30분 500원, 30분 초과 시 10분마다 200원 추가하며 일일 최대 요금은 6,000원이다.

 

공영주차장 요금은 신규 공영주차장 조성과 정비에 대대적으로 쓰여진다.

 

한편 시는 지난해부터 무료공영주차장 단계별 유료화를 추진 중에 있으며 마산보건소앞 공영주차장과 수치마을 공영주차장은 지난해 말부터 유료 운영하고 있다.

 

이종근 교통건설국장은 “주차공간의 효율적 관리를 통한 쾌적한 주차환경 조성과 교통복지 향상을 위해 행정력을 다하겠다”고 말했다.
