[브레이크뉴스=이성용 기자] 창원특례시 농업기술센터는 6일 농촌지역 반려견 관리 미흡으로 인한 유실·유기견의 발생을 예방하고, 동물등록을 활성화하기 위해 실외 사육견을 대상으로 중성화수술 지원사업을 추진하고 있다고 밝혔다.

 

‘실외 사육견’이란 소유자가 마당 등 실외에 묶어 놓거나, 울타리 안에 풀어 놓고 기르는 개를 말한다. 중성화수술 지원사업은 농촌·공단지역 실외에서 반려견을 사육하는 창원시민이라면 누구나 사육지 읍‧면‧동 행정복지센터에서 신청할 수 있다.

 

사업대상자로 선정되면 동물등록 수수료(내장형) 1만 원을 제외하고 중성화수술비 전액을 지원받을 수 있을 뿐만 아니라, 신청자가 반려견을 이송할 수 없는 경우 동물병원까지의 왕복 이송도 시에서 도와주고 있다. 

 

특히 올해는 기존 농촌지역에 한정하지 않고 공단지역까지로 사업 구역을 넓혀, 사실상 주거·상업지역 등을 제외하고는 지역 제한이 완화되었다. 사업량도 500마리로 작년 120마리에 비해 4배 이상 늘었다. 이에 따라 올해 1월 1일부터 2월 5일까지 사업 신청 건수가 115건에 달하는 등 시민들의 호응도 크다.

 

시는 이번 중성화수술 지원사업이 무분별한 실외 사육견 번식으로 인한 유실·유기동물 발생을 예방하고, 야생화된 유실·유기견이 사람의 안전을 위협하는 농촌·공단 지역의 문제 해결에도 도움이 될 것으로 기대하고 있다.
