이번 개소는 올해부터 지역경찰 교육훈련 과정을 기존 2개에서 10개 과정으로 대폭 확대하기 위한 조치로, 지역경찰의 체계적인 교육 환경 조성을 위해 필요성이 제기되었다. 

개소된 교육센터는 경남경찰청 내에 위치하며, 예산과 접근성을 종합적으로 검토하여 설립되었다.

올해 ‘지역경찰 교육센터’에서는 약 1,500여 명의 지역경찰을 대상으로 총 30여 회의 교육을 시행할 계획이며, 각 경찰서에서도 자체 교육을 병행하여 경남경찰청의 지역경찰 교육 체계가 더욱 고도화될 것으로 기대된다.
