경남도 금원산산림자원관리소는 10월 말부터 11월 초순까지 금원산의 가을을 만끽할 수 있는 단풍 나들이 적기라고 밝혔다.

금원산은 해발 1,353m로 남쪽으로는 기백산과 남덕유산에 이어져 있고 유안청 폭포와 자운폭포를 품어 사시사철 계곡 물소리를 들을 수 있는 천혜의 자연 환경이다.

금원산산림자원관리소 내에 자리잡은 생태수목원에 붉은색감을 뽐내는 당단풍나무, 붉나무, 산벚나무, 복자기나무, 산출쭉 등과 노란색감이 선명한 생강나무, 비목나무, 대팻집나무 등 다양한 활엽수가 잘 보존되어 가을철 형형색색 색감을 자랑한다.
