창원특례시는 창원시지속가능발전협의회(회장 이학은)가 5일 경기도 화성시에서 열린 ‘제27회 대한민국 지속가능발전 공모전’ 시상식에서 대상을 수상했다고 밝혔다.

 

이번 공모전은 UN의 지속가능발전목표(SDGs) 달성을 위해 지역사회가 실천한 우수 사례를 발굴하고 전국적으로 확산하기 위해 개최됐다. 전국에서 총 44개의 사례가 접수된 가운데, 창원시의 사례는 환경·사회·경제의 균형을 고려한 실천력에서 단연 높은 평가를 받았다.

 

창원시지속가능발전협의회가 대상을 받은 사례는 '시민·학교·기업·행정이 함께 기록하고 지키는 창원 생물다양성 이야기'를 담았다. 이 사례는 2020년 람사르생태공원에서 두꺼비 산란지가 발견된 것을 계기로 시작되었다는 점에서 큰 주목을 받았다.

 

시민들이 도심 하천과 공원의 생태를 관찰하고 기록하는 자발적인 활동이 전문가, 기업, 그리고 행정이 협력하는 강력한 민관산학 거버넌스로 발전했다는 점에서 심사위원들의 극찬을 받았다.

 

생물다양성 거버넌스의 우수 활동으로는 ▲시민생물조사단 운영(창원천·남천 모니터링, 교란종 제거) ▲생물다양성탐사대회 및 반디원정대 운영 ▲주남저수지 탐조대회 ▲양서파충류 로드킬 방지 캠페인 및 생태사다리 설치 등이 있다. 이 같은 협력적 실천 활동은 지역 환경 보전에 실질적으로 기여하며 지속가능한 생태계의 중요성을 널리 알렸다.

 

이유정 기후환경국장은 “이번 수상은 시가 추진해 온 생물다양성 보호와 지속가능한 발전을 위한 노력이 시민, 학교, 기업 그리고 행정의 협력 속에서 결실을 맺은 결과”라며, “앞으로도 지속가능한 생태 거버넌스를 통해 기후위기 대응과 환경 보호에 앞장설 것”이라고 말했다.
