[브레이크뉴스=정철규 기자] 진주시는 진주의 관문 역할을 하는 새벼리 도로의 안전성을 강화하고 야간경관을 개선하는 재정비 사업을 추진하고 있다고 7일 밝혔다.

 

시는 낙석 위험이 큰 급경사지의 붕괴를 사전에 예방하기 위해 추진 중인 ‘새벼리 급경사지 정비공사’를 1월 중 준공할 예정이다.

 

이번 공사는 총사업비 약 5억원을 투입해 수목 제거와 낙석방지망·낙석방지책 교체 등 노후 안전시설을 집중 정비하는 사업이다.

 

해당 구간은 주약동과 가좌동을 잇는 주요 간선도로로, 공사 완료 후 차량과 보행자의 통행 안전이 크게 향상될 것으로 기대된다.

 

시는 급경사지 정비가 마무리되면 임시 철거했던 새벼리 경관조명을 주변 자연과 조화를 이루도록 개선·재설치해 야간경관 명소로 재탄생시킬 계획이다.

 

특히 시는 기암절경의 입체감을 살린 경관조명을 3월 중 재운영해 밤에도 아름다운 도시 진주의 이미지를 한층 강화할 방침이다.

 

진주시 관계자는 “새벼리 도로 정비를 통해 시민 안전을 강화하고, 경관조명 개선으로 진주의 관문 이미지를 높이겠다”고 말했다.
