[브레이크뉴스=황민성 기자] 고성탈박물관이 전통과 현대가 어우러진 리모델링을 완료하고 재개관했다.

 

지난 12일 열린 재개관식에는 이상근 고성군수를 비롯해 세계탈문화예술연맹 손상락 회장 등 내빈과 관계자 약 70여 명이 참석해 재개관을 함께 축하했다.

 

고성탈박물관은 지난 2일부터 시범운영에 들어갔으며, 이번 재개관을 통해 전통 탈 전시를 현대적 감각으로 재해석하고 관람객이 오감을 통해 직접 체험할 수 있는 참여형 탈 문화 전문 박물관으로 새롭게 거듭났다.

 

재개관을 알리는 공연과 감동의 시간 이날 재개관식은 통영 삼현육각 보존회의 식전 공연으로 문을 열었다.

 

소리 김애리, 해금 정은주, 피리 정석진, 대금 정승훈이 참여한 ‘굿 산조’연주는 무속음악과 산조의 즉흥성이 어우러진 깊이 있는 무대로 관람객들의 큰 호응을 얻었다.

 

이어 소프라노 이영령이 푸치니 오페라 의 아리아 ‘오, 사랑하는 나의 아버지’를 비롯해 가곡과 샹송을 선보이며 전통과 현대, 동서양 음악을 넘나드는 감동적인 공연을 펼쳤다.

 

공연에 이어 고성탈박물관 리모델링 사업을 차질 없이 수행한 현장소장에게 감사패를 전달하고, 그간의 노고를 격려했다.

 

20년 전통의 탈 문화 공간, 새롭게 재탄생 고성탈박물관은 2005년 개관 이후 20여 년간 유네스코 인류 무형유산으로 등재된 고성오광대를 비롯해 지역 탈과 탈놀이 문화를 보존·전시·교육해 온 대표적인 전통문화 공간이다.

 

그러나 개관 이후 시설 노후화와 관람 동선의 불편, 체험·교육 공간의 한계 등 개선 필요성이 지속적으로 제기돼 왔다.

 

이에 고성군은 고성 탈 문화의 가치를 더욱 효과적으로 전달하고, 군민과 방문객 모두가 공감하고 체험할 수 있는 현대적 문화공간으로 탈바꿈하고자 고성탈박물관 리모델링 사업을 추진했다.

이번 사업은 건축기획과 전시 기획 수립, 실시설계를 거쳐 전시 공간 개선, 관람 동선 재구성, 체험·교육 기능 강화, 편의시설 확충을 중심으로, 단계적으로 진행됐다.

 

1층에는 말뚝이를 활용한 ‘말뚝이 영상일기’콘텐츠와 관람객 휴게공간을 조성하고, 상설전시실1‧2에서는 지역별 탈춤과 마을굿 놀이 계통의 탈을 체험 중심으로 소개한다.

 

2층에는 개관 20주년을 기념하는 특별전과 함께 다목적 문화공간 ‘사랑채’, 열린 뜰을 조성해 휴식과 문화 활동이 가능한 공간으로 운영하며, 3층에는 수장고를 배치해 소장품 보존·관리 기능을 강화했다.

 

특히 고성탈박물관은 2025년 실감형 체험시설 구축사업 참여기관으로 최종 선정되어, 고성오광대와 같은 전통 탈놀이를 몰입감 있게 체험할 수 있는 실감형 콘텐츠를 구축했다.

 

관람객은 조선 시대 탈놀이 판 한가운데에 있는 듯한 생생한 체험을 통해 고성오광대의 역사와 예술적 가치, 탈놀이 문화의 의미를 더욱 쉽게 이해할 수 있다.

 

이와 함께 어린이·청소년·가족 단위 관람객을 위한 참여형 체험 공간도 대폭 확충됐다.

 

문화 복합 공간으로의 변모 고성탈박물관은 전시 공간을 넘어 지역 주민과 예술인이 함께 어우러지는 문화 복합 공간으로 새롭게 조성됐다.

 

박물관 내 마련된 다목적 문화공간은 군민과 지역 예술인을 위한 열린 공간으로 운영되며, 전시와 공연, 발표회 등 다양한 문화 행사를 수용하는 ‘문화 사랑채’로 활용된다.

 

이를 통해 박물관은 지역 문화 향유와 소통의 중심 공간으로 자리매김할 전망이다.

 

최다원 문화예술과장은 “유네스코 인류 무형유산인 고성오광대를 비롯한 지역 탈 문화를 보존·계승해 온 고성탈박물관이 개관 20년 만에 처음으로 리모델링을 마치고 새롭게 출발하게 되어 뜻깊다”라며, “이번 사업은 민선 8기 역점사업으로, 누구나 탈 문화를 쉽고 깊이 있게 체험할 수 있도록 하는 데 중점을 두었다”라고 말했다.

In particular, the Goseong Mask Museum was selected as a participating institution in the 2025 Realistic Experience Facility Construction Project, developing realistic content that allows visitors to immerse themselves in traditional mask dances like Goseong Ogwangdae.

 

Visitors will experience the vivid realities of Joseon Dynasty mask dance performances, allowing them to better understand the history and artistic value of Goseong Ogwangdae and the significance of mask dance culture.

 

Furthermore, interactive experience spaces for children, teenagers, and families have been significantly expanded.
