[브레이크뉴스=이성용기자] 창원특례시는 13일 마산합포구 진북면 해병대 진동리지구 전첩비에서 제72주년 진동리지구 전투 전승 기념식을 개최했다. 

기념식에는 홍남표 창원특례시장을 비롯해 해병대 전우회 회원과 참전용사, 현역 장병 등 400여 명이 참석했다. 

사단법인 해병대창원시마산연합전우회는 9개 산하 지회, 2개 봉사단에서 400여 명의 회원이 1996년 설립되어 활동 중이다.

해병대 진동리지구 전투는 한국전쟁 당시 마산을 거쳐 부산을 점령하려는 북한군 제6사단에 맞서 해병대 김성은 부대를 중심으로 한 연합군이 최초로 승리한 전투이며, 이러한 전공을 기려 2000년부터 해마다 해병대 진동리지구 전첩비에서 기념식이 열리고 있다.

홍남표 창원특례시장은 “조국 수호의 일념으로 목숨을 아끼지 않고 값진 승리를 이루어낸 참전용사들과 그 가족들께 감사드린다”며 “참전용사들의 숭고한 투혼 정신을 되새겨 과거를 기억하는 도시, 희생과 헌신에 감사하는 도시, 그 고마움을 발전과 성장으로 보답하는 도시가 되도록 최선을 다하겠다”고 밝혔다.
