[브레이크뉴스=이성용 기자] 경남도는 5일 한국섬진흥원과 함께 남해안 섬을 전문으로 하는 글로벌 교육‧연구센터를 지정하고자 업무협약을 체결했다.

이날 협약식은 박완수 경상남도지사와 오동호 한국섬진흥원장을 비롯한 섬 관계자가 참석한 가운데 진행됐으며, 경남 섬에 대한 지속적인 발전과 섬 관광벨트 개발에 양 기관이 서로 협력해 나갈 것을 다짐했다.

이번 협약은 섬 관광벨트 개발을 위한 공동프로젝트 뿐만 아니라, 섬 전문인력을 양성하는 글로벌 교육‧연구센터를 경남에 지정해 운영할 수 있는 기반을 확립하기 위해 마련됐다.

특히, 경남이 보유한 남해안 섬의 가치를 개발하고 지속적으로 보존‧유지하기 위한 기반과 양 기관의 역량을 바탕으로 긴밀한 협조체계를 유지해 나가기로 했다. 

또, 섬 개발을 위한 교육‧연구, 컨설팅‧홍보, 섬 관광 활성화 사업의 공동 추진에도 함께 노력하기로 했다.

이날 협약을 통해 남해안 섬 관광벨트 개발을 위한 공동프로젝트 추진, 경남지역 대학과 연계한 섬 전문인력양성, 섬 관련 연구 및 학술대회 등 경남연구원과 공동협력사업 추진, 남해안 섬 글로벌 교육‧연구 센터 지정 운영 등이다. 

이를 통해 양 기관은 상호협력 관계를 유지하며, 섬 발전을 위한 교류와 협력 범위를 더욱 확대해 나갈 계획이다.

경남도는 섬 글로벌 교육‧연구 센터를 활용해 지속가능한 섬의 우수한 정책을 지역 주민들에게 알리고, 섬 전문인력 양성과 관광자원 활성화 대책 등 지속가능한 섬의 발전방안을 지속적으로 마련해 나가기로 했다.

박완수 지사는 “섬의 가치를 제고하고 미래 성장동력을 창출하고 있는 한국섬진흥원과의 협력이 발전의 계기가 될 것”이라며 “이번 협약으로 전남, 경남 등 남해안을 끼고 있는 지자체들이 섬 발전과 관광 진흥을 위해 협력을 더욱 강화할 수 있기를 바란다”고 말했다.
