[브레이크뉴스=이성용 기자] 지난해 12월 21일 창원지방법원은 남창원농협 발 코로나 사태와 관련해, 창원시는 재판부의 강한 화해 권고가 있어 소송을 취하할 수 밖에 없었다고 밝혔다. 

 

하지만 이는 명백히 잘못된 입장 표명이고, 월권이며 피해자인 2만여 명의 시민들을 위한 애민은 조금도 찾아볼 수 없는 최악의 결정이다. 

 

지난 2021년 8월 5일, 강한 폭염에도 불구하고 2만여명의 시민들은 남창원농협을 다녀왔다는 이유만으로 임시선별검사소로 의무적으로 와서 검사를 받으라는 통보를 받고 검사를 받았다. 

 

이유는 간단하다.  남창원농협에서 확진자가 발생했고 이를 즉시 창원시와 시민들에게 알림과 동시에 영업을 중지해야 했음에도 불구하고 3일동안이나 쉬쉬하며 영업을 계속해 확진자가 확산됐기 때문이다. 

 

2만여 명의 피해자가 명백하게 발생했음에도 불구하고 코로나가 느슨해졌고, 이로인한 실익이 없다는 이유로 재판부의 권고를 받아들였다는 창원시의 결정은 납득하기 어렵다. 

 

창원시의 말대로라면 재판부의 강한 권고를 받아들여 소송을 취하했고 이로인해 남창원농협은 면죄부를 받음과 동시에 창원시가 받아야 할 혈세 11억5천만원을 창원시가 대신 지급해준 셈이다. 

 

당시 백승조 남창원농협 조합장은 이와 관련해 기자회견을 열고 "남창원농협 유통센터를 이용하는 창원시민 및 고객들께 진심으로 사죄의 말씀을 드린다. 선별진료소에서 며칠간 검사를 받기 위해 고생하셨던 수많은 시민분과 방역당국 관계자분들, 확진을 받거나 자가격리 중인 직원 협력업체 관계자 분과 가족, 지인분께도 사죄드린다”고 말하고 큰절을 하기도 했다.
