이날 설명회에는 300여명의 거제시민들이 참석해 가덕도신공항 건설에 대한 높은 관심을 보였다.

국토부에서 발표한 기본계획(안)에 따르면 가덕도신공항은 24시간 운영가능토록 2029년 12월 개항을 목표로 하고, 활주로 1개(연장 3.5km, 폭45m), 주차장(1만 718대), 접근도로(9.3km, 4차선), 접근철도(16.5km, 복선) 등을 계획하고 있다고 했다.

이어, 최근 전략환경영향평가 협의 완료되어 공유수면 매립기본계획, 재해영향평가, 해상교통안전진단 등 관계부처와 협의를 거쳐 올해 말까지 기본계획을 확정할 계획이라고 했다.
