이날 행사에는 공무원과 친환경 벼 생산자단체 등 20여 명이 참여해, 왕우렁이 관리요령 교육을 통해 올바른 관리 방법을 숙지한 후, 논 물떼기 과정에서 유출된 농경지 및 농수로 주변의 왕우렁이를 수거했다. 또한, 논 주변의 왕우렁이 알도 제거하여 재생산을 막기위한 조치를 취했다.

외래종인 왕우렁이는, 토종 우렁이에 비해 섭식력과 번식력이 월등하고, 기후 온난화 등으로 월동하면서 생태교란종으로 논란이 지속되고 있다. 하지만 현재 친환경 벼 재배 농가에 우렁이 농법을 대체할 친환경 벼 제초방법이 없어, 관리가 무엇보다 중요하다.
