[브레이크뉴스=정철규 기자] 진주시는 세계보건기구(WHO)의 ‘고령친화도시 국제 네트워크’ 재인증을 획득해 고령친화도시의 위상을 다시 한번 인정받았다고 17일 밝혔다.

 

시는 65세 이상 인구 증가에 따른 고령화에 선제적으로 대응하고 국내외 도시들과 정책 경험을 공유하기 위해 지난 2023년 WHO 고령친화도시 국제 네트워크에 가입했다.

 

진주시는 재인증 과정에서 어르신 일자리 확대, 스마트경로당 운영, 노인복지관 프로그램 활성화 등 다양한 복지정책을 추진한 점에서 높은 평가를 받았다.

 

또 시는 지역사회 통합돌봄 강화와 안전한 보행환경 조성, 주거환경 개선, 시니어 정보 제공 등 어르신들의 일상과 밀접한 맞춤형 정책을 지속적으로 확대해 왔다.

 

또한 진주시는 건강 증진과 여가활동 지원을 위해 파크골프장 확충, 노인대학 운영, 평생학습 기회 제공 등을 추진 어르해신들의 사회참여 기반 마련에도 힘쓰고 있다.

 

시는 이번 재인증을 계기로 WHO가 제시한 외부환경, 교통, 주거, 사회참여 등 8대 영역을 중심으로 고령친화도시 조성 실행계획을 더욱 체계적으로 추진할 방침이다.

 

진주시 관계자는 “이번 재인증은 시민과 행정의 노력이 결실을 맺은 것이다”며 “앞으로도 돌봄과 건강, 여가, 이동권 등 다양한 분야에서 체감할 수 있는 정책을 발굴하겠다”고 말했다.
