[브레이크뉴스=정철규 기자] 진주시는 25일 ‘금산 송백지구 자전거도로 개선 사업’을 완료하고 정식 개통했다고 밝혔다.

 

이번 사업 대상 구간은 수변 테마공원과 파크골프장 사이로, 기존 자전거·보행자 겸용도로에서 이용자 동선이 겹치며 충돌 사고 우려가 제기돼 왔다.

 

이에 시는 총사업비 3억원을 투입해 수변 테마공원에 별도 자전거도로를 신설하고 자전거와 보행자의 이동 공간을 명확히 분리해 안전성을 높였다.

 

시는 이번 새롭게 조성된 자전거도로는 시민들이 송백 체육시설과 주변 여가 공간을 더욱 편리하고 안전하게 이용할 수 있도록 쾌적한 통행 환경을 제공할 것으로 기대하고 있다.

 

진주시는 자전거 이용 활성화를 위해 지난해 남강 제방과 둔치를 연결하는 자전거도로 경사로 8곳을 설치하는 등 관련 기반시설 확충에도 힘쓰고 있다.

 

또 시는 주요 자전거도로 구간에는 스마트 게이트를 설치하고, 집중호우와 폭염 등 재난 상황에 대비한 안전 점검을 지속적으로 추진하고 있다.

 

아울러 시는 전 시민 대상 자전거 보험 운영과 안전 문화 캠페인을 통해 자전거 이용자의 보호와 올바른 이용 질서 확립에도 나서고 있다.
